The Labour Court overturned a Rights Commissioner’s recommendation and recommended that Kilkenny Borough Council pay a worker the eating-on-site allowance for 28 September 2011 to 31 October 2012. The decision was signed on 5 December 2014. The worker, represented by the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union, sought payment from when the allowance was introduced for outdoor staff. The council said allowances normally took effect from the date of a claim. The Court found that the worker met the criteria from the allowance’s introduction. The allowance was €1.90 per day.
