The Labour Court rejected a worker’s appeal for a higher rate of pay for covering absent employees in the paint department at Ingersoll Rand International Ltd T/A Thermo King. The decision was dated 14 April 2014. The union, Unite, said the worker acted as a floater and sought the Grade VII rate retrospectively. The employer said there was no designated floater role in the paint department. The Court found that the worker’s cover duties were appropriate to Grade VI and rejected the claim for an upgrade.
