The Labour Court varied a Rights Commissioner’s recommendation in a maternity top-up appeal by a worker against G4S Cash Solutions Ireland Ltd, recommending a once-off €3,000 payment. The decision was signed on 4 December 2012. The worker, represented by the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union, said her clerical duties and 2005 start date gave her an expectation of the payment, which applied to some clerical staff hired before 2008. G4S said her substantive role was in cash in transit and she provided only minimal clerical cover. The Court found she had dual contractual responsibilities and some expectation of similar benefits, although her contract did not provide for the top-up. It also recommended that the company clarify this for future reference.
