Labour Court upholds nurse’s location allowance entitlement from September 2006

The Labour Court upheld a recommendation that a clinical trial nurse receive a location allowance retrospectively from September 2006, after Adelaide & Meath Hospital’s appeal failed. The decision was signed on 21 February 2011. The Court found no reason the allowance should not have applied from the start of her employment in the department. The hospital said it had applied the allowance at its discretion and later granted 18 months’ back pay as a goodwill gesture. The worker, represented by INMO, argued that Department of Health and Children circulars entitled her to the allowance.
