The Labour Court overturned a Rights Commissioner’s recommendation in favour of a worker on Aer Lingus’s appeal over her cabin crew seniority date. The decision was dated 17 December 2004. The dispute was whether her seniority as a cabin crew member should date from 1988 or 1995. The Court found that she joined the company in 1988 but did not become a cabin crew member until she completed training in 1995. Under the seniority rules, the Court said, seniority depended on entry to the flight services department as a cabin crew member.
