Vacant Louth County Council owned site set for 43 new homes by 2028
The Drogheda IndependentA three acre site in County Louth, previously owned by Dundalk Town Council, is set for redevelopment with 43 new houses to be built in the next three years.
The site, located along the Ramparts Road, is expected to welcome new residents in 2028, after it was included in the three year Capital Budget adopted by Louth councillors at the Budget 2026 meeting.
Cllr. Marianne Butler welcomed the inclusion of the site for development, explaining that she had identified it as a vacant plot.
She highlighted the background to the site in a Facebook post this week.
"A couple of years ago the Land Development Agency identified four publicly owned sites in Dundalk that could be developed for housing, they missed one, but I didn’t!”
A site along the Ramparts Road had showed up on local maps, explained Cllr. Butler.
"When I did a bit of digging I could see that it was owned by Dundalk Town Council, which hasn’t existed for about a decade, so it’s now owned by Louth County Council."
She added: “I began asking questions about it, and when I was making a submission to the Dundalk Local Area Plan I asked that it be included as an infill brownfield site.”
Cllr. Butler said she was “glad to report that at the Budget meeting it is now included in the three year Capital Budget for Louth County Council. It is a no-brainer to develop a site we already own.”
She said that it is earmarked for 43 homes “that will hopefully be developed in the next couple of years, and hopefully the first residents will be moving in there in 2028.”
