Residents warned of Dundalk road disruption as wastewater network surveys begin

By Olivia Ryan, Irish Independent

Residents in parts of Dundalk are being advised to expect temporary disruption from early June as Uisce Éireann begins preliminary works ahead of a planned wastewater network upgrade.

The utility has confirmed that site investigations will commence on June 8, 2026, focusing on areas in Dundalk East and St Helena. The works form part of a wider national growth and development programme aimed at increasing the capacity of Ireland’s water and wastewater infrastructure.

Uisce Éireann said the investment is intended to support “social and economic growth and development,” including facilitating the delivery of new housing — particularly social housing.

Survey activity will take place at multiple locations, including along the N52 and surrounding residential areas such as Hazelwood Avenue, Hazel Close, Cypress Gardens, Red Barns Road, Water View and Súil na Mara.

The investigative works are expected to last approximately four weeks.

During this period, residents and road users should anticipate temporary traffic management measures, including stop-and-go systems, which may lead to delays in affected areas.

Uisce Éireann has urged the public to allow extra time for journeys where works are underway and said efforts will be made to minimise disruption where possible.
