Louth councillor criticises ‘insulting’ Irish Rail response over Dundalk station parking

A Dundalk councillor has criticised what she described as a “generic insulting reply” from Irish Rail in response to questions raised about parking capacity at Clarke Railway Station.
Speaking at the May meeting of Dundalk Municipal District, Cllr Maeve Yore said questions had been asked by “democratically elected representatives” in Louth about ongoing pressures on parking spaces at the train station.
She said that councillors had been issued with a “generic” and “insulting reply” by Irish Rail.
"It is not acceptable that Irish Rail are treating us like this about parking capacity. We just want to know what is happening.”
Director of Service at Louth County Council, David Jones, told the meeting that he wasn’t aware of any further update from Irish Rail.
Long-running pressures on parking space at Clarke Station came to a head in October 2025 when Irish Rail announced it would clamp vehicles parked along an access road at the station that had previously been used by commuters as unofficial parking spaces.
Calls have been made by both local councillors and Louth TDs for Irish Rail to actively work to increase parking capacity at the station.
Irish Rail have previously said they are examining a range of solutions, and “opportunities to make some initial changes to yield even a small number of extra spaces.”
