CCTV calls for prolific ‘dumping blackspot’ in Louth
The Drogheda IndependentA prolific ‘dumping blackspot’ in north Louth should be included on the list of locations where Louth County Council locate cctv as part of a new anti-dumping initiative, according to a Dundalk Councillor.
Speaking at the monthly meeting of Dundalk Municipal District, Cllr. Antoin Watters queried the locations which would be selected under the programme.
Louth County Council had announced details last month of new solar powered cctv cameras which will be used in the battle against illegal dumping.
Cllr Watters asked how long the cameras would remain in each location and at what point they would be moved to other locations.
He told the meeting that he had asked the council to look at a number of specific locations and requested that the cameras are placed on the Turf Mountain in Edentubber.
"This is an area I have highlighted for many years and it is reason I have been pushing for this CCTV rollout for so long,” said Cllr Watters.
The scenic border road has been plagued with incidents of illegal dumping over recent years, and has led for calls from local councillors for heavier fines to be imposed on those found to be engaging in dumping.
A spokesperson for Louth County Council said they would reply to Cllr. Watters on the query over cctv cameras.
