Conor Torsney memorial cycle raises €100k for resurfacing of Leitrim GAA pitch
The Sligo ChampionThe parents of the late Conor Torsney, Kevin and Clodagh, last weekend presented a cheque for €100,000 to the Dromahair Arts and Recreation Centre (DARC) following a 90km fundraising cycle that was held in June, a year after his sudden and tragic death.
The young Dromahair man whose life was cut tragically short was a proud member of the village’s gaelic football and soccer clubs and it was deemed fitting that a fundraiser in his memory be held with monies raised helping advance the long standing efforts to install a state of the art grass playing surface.
A post on the Dromahair GAA Facebook page expressed the club’s gratitude to Kevin and Clodagh for their trojan efforts noting the money raised will help create a lasting tribute to Conor’s memory.
“On behalf of St. Patrick’s GAA, we wish to extend our sincere thanks to Kevin and Clodagh Torsney for raising an incredible €100,000 from the cycle in honour of Conor. This generous contribution will go directly towards the resurfacing of our GAA pitch which has been in need of upgrade for as long as we care to remember, but will now create a lasting improvement that will benefit generations to come
“Without this support, the resurfacing would not be possible. Thanks to your efforts, we can now look forward with pride to the day when Dromahair teams will be able to play year-round on a high-quality surface.
Your generosity has created a poignant & lasting legacy for Conor and for the entire community, and we are deeply grateful.”
