Galway village added on list of stops for Local Link bus service

The NTA has acted on calls to divert the TFI Local Link bus 546 route to service the town of Castleblakeney in Ballinasloe, Co Galway.
Galway County Councillor Alan Harney received a response from the NTA stating the amendment to the route had “merit” confirming the route diversion to serve Castleblakeney village.
Currently, the route provides service between Castlrea and Ballinasloe town. The route takes the local link directly from Mountbellew to Caltra.
Cllr Harney told the Irish Independent the changes would see a turn at Greenville into Castleblakeney where a stop would be facilitated in the village, then carry onto Caltra.
“It's really good news for people in Castleblakeney, and the wider region, who want to either travel in the direction of Ballinasloe or likewise travel towards Mountbellew/Castlerea,” he said.
Cllr Harney said the active travel team at Galway County Council have committed to the installation of “a permanent, designated bus stop in Castleblakeney in the coming months” after public consultation.
Until then, a roll out of publicity on the addition will occur, with a temporary bus stop location in the town.
