Twelve Dublin city parks honoured with Green Flag Awards in 2025

Twelve parks around Dublin city received Green Flag awards in 2025.
At a special celebration in Griffith Park, Drumcondra, Lord Mayor Councillor Ray McAdam congratulated the staff of Dublin City Council for the impressive achievements. The Green Flag Award is internationally recognised as the benchmark of excellence for parks and green spaces.
Each park is assessed against 27 criteria, including environmental management, community involvement, and biodiversity protection. This highlights the high calibre of parks Dubliners can enjoy across the city.
“I am immensely proud that twelve of Dublin’s parks have once again achieved the Green Flag Award. These awards reflect the dedication of our Parks staff and the commitment of Dublin City Council to providing safe, sustainable, and welcoming green spaces for all. Today’s celebration is about recognising the people behind this success, and I want to thank each and every member of the team for their hard work,” Lord Mayor McAdam said.
Leslie Moore, Head of Parks, Biodiversity and Landscape Services, Dublin City Council added: “Each award demonstrates Dublin City Council’s strong commitment to the stewardship of its parks, ongoing investment in amenities and infrastructure, and the protection of biodiversity across the city. This achievement would not be possible without the passion and professionalism of our staff.”
The Green Flag Award Scheme was first introduced in Ireland in 2015 and since then the council has embedded its principles to the management of their parks. These include meeting eight key standards.
From ensuring Dublin parks are a welcome place with safe access, clear signage, and giving a positive first impression to prioritising healthy, safe, and secure facilities, all of these aspects are vital to gaining a Green Flag Award. Cleanliness, environmental management, biodiversity and landscape heritage also play an important role.
Other areas of consideration are community involvement, marketing and communications, as well as the overall management. When all of these areas are brought together, the result is a park that delivers for the community on all fronts.
