Tricks and treats on Dublin streets: A look at the Council's Halloween line-up

The city is about to get a lot more frightening as Dublin City Council are celebrating the spooky season with a litany of events this Halloween.
Some terrifying times have already begun as those ready to embrace the dark side can check out The Big Scream, the annual multi-day event held in Dublin's North East Inner City. With fun activities and workshops for all ages from pre-schoolers to senior citizens, all events taking place are free.
The Big Scream boasts a Haunting House of Horrors in St Agatha’s Hall on Wednesday and Thursday, before a full roster of events taking place on October 31. These include a talk on the origins of Halloween, Spooky Cinema, a Carnival Sensory Hour, Halloween funfair, Sheriff Street Skelebration, and Canal Creepfest.
Ringsend residents should also be prepared for Dockers & Demons, an annual celebration from Dublin City Council ’s South East Area Community Development Team. With dress-up parties, haunted house experiences, talent showcases, arts and crafts workshops, and scary storytelling, these family-friendly events use the The Big Top Festival Circus tent at Ringsend Park as its main hub.
On Thursday, those in Marino Crescent Park can delight in spooky trails, storytelling, face painting, and movie screens at Stoker’s Spectacular. Taking place from 5 to 8pm, any children must be accompanied by an adult.
Anyone with a love for classic fairytales should make their way to the Halloween Panto at Ambassador Theatre, which is running early showings everyday until October 31. Written and directed by Rob Murphy, Hansel, Gretel & The Witch is Dublin city’s first Halloween pantomime.
That’s not to mention the different Halloween festivals occurring across the city on Friday. These include Kilmore West Halloween Spectacular, Brickfield Park Halloween Festival, Crumlin Halloween Festival, Pumpkins in May Park, and the Donaghmede Monster Mash.
Dublin 7 hasn’t been left behind in all the frightening fun, as the Cabra Area Community team will be hosting different events around the area. Event locations include Ashington Park, Dunard Green, Killala Green, John Paul Park, and Montpelier Park.
There’s also the Cabra Parkside Púca in the Park from 11am to 5pm on Friday. Events include a zombie run, toffee apple making workshop, face painting, storytelling, all culminating with a big screen movie.
