Interactive map highlights Dublin activities after dark that go beyond the pub

A new interactive map highlights nearly 100 night-time activities and cultural spaces across the city.
Dublin City Council has launched ‘Dublin Nights Mapped,’ which showcases all the things there are to do around the capital after 6pm. From late cafes and cultural spaces to activities and free outdoor sports, everything is brought together in an easy to use Google Map.
To celebrate the launch of this new initiative, Free Now is even offering 25% discount on journeys taken between 6pm and 12am using the promocode DUBMAPPED, which can take people beyond traditional night-time activities and support a more diverse, inclusive and vibrant city after dark.
Night-Time Economy Advisor with Dublin City Council Ray O’Donoghue said the project came about after Google approached him about curating a map and it quickly became apparent “just how much there is to do in Dublin after 6pm that isn’t focused on alcohol.”
“This is absolutely not anti-alcohol - it’s simply a guide to the many great ways people can experience the city in the evening and at night. That might mean a late café, a cultural event, indoor golf, pottery painting, or simply walking around the city and seeing it differently,” he said.
Developed with the support of the Department of Culture, Communications and Sport, this new map aligns with Dublin City’s Night-Time Strategy . This aims to foster collaboration between cultural organisations, venues and creatives, and enhance Dublin’s overall evening and night-time experience for residents and visitors.
“We hope to continue building on this map over time, and we’d encourage venues, organisations and businesses that aren’t yet included to get involved,” the Night-Time Economy Advisor added.
Lord Mayor Ray McAdam welcomed the launch as a prime example of “the city’s rich cultural and social life after 6pm.” “It highlights the diversity of experiences on offer and encourages people to see and use the city in new ways in the evening and at night,” he said.
The map has been planned as “a living, breathing resource” that can aid those looking for something different to do after dark. It will be regularly updated on the Google Maps platform as new venues, activities and experiences emerge. Micromedia is the official media partner, providing promotional support across the city through its large-format digital networks.
Minister for Culture, Communications and Sport, Patrick O’Donovan also welcomed the map as a means of promoting “activities that are inclusive, diverse and reflective of today’s trends and society.” “I am delighted to be supporting this positive initiative, which furthers this objective and showcases the wide range of cultural activities and options for an alternative night out in the city,” he said.
Dublin Nights Mapped is a curated list compiled by Dublin City Council’s Night-Time Economy Advisor and hosted on Google Maps. More details, including a link to the map, can be found at www.dublinnights.ie.
