Emergency crews on high following 46mm deluge of rainfall in Finglas

Emergency crews remain on high alert across Dublin today after 46mm rainfall was recorded at Mellowes Road in Finglas overnight.
With 9.6mm falling in a single hour, this, paired with saturated ground conditions has resulted in significant surface water runoff and a number of flooding incidents across the city. Dublin City Council deployed emergency crews throughout the night and is continuing to respond today.
Although rainfall has eased, river levels remain elevated and conditions are being closely monitored as Dubliners are urged to exercise extreme caution and avoid travel through heavily impacted areas. Clongriffin and Ballymun have been significantly impacted with localised flooding affecting roads and properties. In Clongriffin, an Uisce Éireann foul sewer surcharged, resulting in road damage and property flooding.
Council on-call staff, together with Dublin Fire Brigade , have responded to make the site safe. The council is continuing to coordinate with Uisce Eireann and other agencies to address the detrimental impact of severe weather conditions.
A full review has commenced in parallel with ongoing responses, including the timeliness of weather warnings and forecasts. A spokesperson for Dublin City Council stated: “We recognise the distress flooding can cause for residents and businesses and will continue to provide updates as further verified information becomes available.”
Those in distress are urged to report issues through the council’s emergency contact channels.
