Dublin residents urged to join new safety teams replacing Joint Policing Committees

Engaged Dublin residents are being invited to join the new Local Community Safety Partnerships by Dublin City Council .
The Council has issued an open call for residents and other community representatives who are passionate about working together to make Dublin safer and more inclusive for all. With five LCSPs being set up, these new groups will focus on prioritising local safety concerns and implementing community response plans.
There will be one new group for each administrative area in the city. With South East, South Central, Central, North West and North Central all benefiting, these partnerships will replace the previous Joint Policing Committee (JPC) structures.
The previous JPC system offered the community an opportunity to liaison with An Garda Síochána and encouraged an environment of consultation and cooperation between police, residents, and representatives. However, this model excluded other important state bodies.
Each new LCSP partnership will have up to 30 members, bringing together state bodies, including An Garda Síochána, health and social services. Every LCSP must include at least four residents, plus one youth representative, one business representative, one from the voluntary sector and members of new and minority communities.
The key principle of the LCSP is that community safety is not the sole responsibility of An Garda Siochána but also involves other Government agencies. With focus on health, youth and social services, the idea is the local community address the issues most important to them.
As a new initiative established under the Policing, Security and Community Safety Act 2024, each LCSP aims to increase community confidence in state services and make people feel safer in their communities. The Council encourages anyone with an interest in their local community to consider applying.
The final date for submission is Friday, November 21 at 5pm. Interested individuals are invited to complete the expression of interest form by clicking here .
