Dublin North Central lit up with Christmas tree cheer - except for Donaghmede

By Stephen Holland, DublinLive

A total of 13 Christmas trees have been installed throughout Dublin ’s North Central area - although Councillors feel Donaghmede was left behind.

A pilot Christmas tree programme has seen Dublin’s North Central lit up with sustainable trees that will continue to grow for years to come. With tree lighting for the first time, residents can enjoy a festive feeling as they drive through different thoroughfares across the city.

However, Donaghmede was notably absent from the list of installations, with the Council stating they will consider the area for inclusion next year. One important aspect to installing a tree is finding an appropriate location that will also have a power source for lighting, which impacts which areas could be included in the programme.

Households also looking to get rid of their artificial Christmas tree are also in look as Dublin City Council have introduced dedicated recycling scheme .

The pilot project, known as Project reTREE, runs from 15 November 2025 to 31 January 2026 and will allow Dubliners to recycle their artificial trees that are at the end of their use.

The trees can be dropped off the Ballyogan Recycling Centre in Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown or Ballymount Civic Amenity in South Dublin to be recycled responsibly

Those looking to experience the magic of Christmas can find the sustainable trees at the following locations:
