Dublin City Council secures €40 million for delivery of over 2,200 homes

Dublin City Council have secured nearly €40 million to facilitate the direct delivery of over 2,200 homes.

Department of Housing funding through the Housing Infrastructure Investment Fund (HIIF) programme has been secured for three key council projects. The housing project at Donore Avenue will receive funding of just over €20m and affordable housing projects at Balbutcher/Sillogue and at Cherry Orchard will each receive allocations of just under €10m.

Coming from the HIIF programme, this fund aims to accelerate delivery across the country and address the housing within the council’s administrative area. Collectively, these investments will help facilitate the direct delivery of over 2,200 new homes.

This funding will support the essential enabling infrastructure needed to progress housing development at each of the sites. This includes the construction of link and access roads to open up lands, as well as the provision of drainage systems.

The investment will also contribute to the development of active travel infrastructure , including sustainable walking and cycling connections between communities. With spaces and amenity areas, the HIIF programme focuses not only on housing delivery but also on the creation of genuine neighbourhoods where communities can grow.

Lord Mayor Ray McAdam welcomed the funding as “not just an investment in infrastructure” but an important step in unlocking the homes the city needs and “the communities our citizens deserve”. He said this support from the Department signals “confidence in our capacity to plan, deliver and grow in a way that is both sustainable and inclusive”.

“The support for these projects will enable essential works - roads, drainage, public spaces and active travel connections - that transform sites into places where people can truly live and belong. This is how progress happens: through partnership, shared ambition and a clear focus on outcomes,” he said.

“Today’s announcement shows what is possible when Government and local authorities work together with purpose. It is about more than enabling development; it is about shaping the future of our communities, creating opportunity, and ensuring our city continues to thrive for generations to come.”

Chairperson of the Housing SPC Councillor Deirdre Heney commend the focus on “access, connectivity and high-quality public spaces”. She described the funding approval as demonstrating “real momentum in bringing forward much-needed homes”.
