This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Yvonne Graham described witnessing young people die during the Stardust fire at an inquest at Dublin’s Coroner’s Court on 2 May 2023.

Ms Graham said she and Susan Morgan had moved from Derry to Dublin to work and live at Nazareth House. Susan, known as Susie, was 19 when she died in the fire.

The day after the fire, Ms Graham and a companion searched hospitals before she recognised Susan’s clothes in the morgue. Ms Graham said she identified her friend by one shoe, a borrowed shirt and a signet ring.

She described the fire as ending their carefree life in Dublin and said the group had seen young people die in front of them. The inquest was examining the 1981 fire, which killed 48 people.
