Woman released as High Court quarantine inquiry ends

By Eimear Byrne

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

A woman was released from mandatory quarantine, and the High Court ended its detention inquiry on 14 April 2021. She had returned from Dubai to help her family after her father underwent cancer surgery, and left the Crowne Plaza Dublin Airport hotel on 13 April after a negative Covid-19 test.

Mr Justice Brian O’Moore formally terminated the inquiry after counsel confirmed that the woman had been released and accepted that the application no longer needed to proceed. Her lawyers had argued that her detention was unlawful, and counsel said her applications for humanitarian release had been resumed several times. Counsel also said she had been vaccinated and had tested negative for the virus on several occasions. Two separate challenges by other people who remained in quarantine were listed for hearing later that week.
