William Moran's trial has opened on a charge of murdering Martin Brophy at the old Waterford Institute of Technology building between 19 and 21 May 2012. He has pleaded not guilty to the charge. The proceedings were reported on 11 February 2015.
The report said Mr Brophy died from severe head injuries. Former deputy State pathologist Dr Khalid Jaber viewed his body at the location and found numerous injuries, mainly to the head. His opinion was that the head trauma could have been caused by kicking, stomping, stamping or use of a concrete brick, the court was told.
The court also heard that Mr Moran allegedly told a friend on Facebook that he had beaten Martin Brophy to death with a lock.
The trial was continuing.
