James O'Reilly jailed for 12 years for abusing daughter

By Gráinne Nolan

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

James O'Reilly was jailed for 12 years after a Central Criminal Court jury convicted him of oral rape, five counts of sexual assault and three counts of sexual exploitation at the family home in Waterford between 2010 and 2014. The court heard that his daughter, Bridget O'Reilly, waived her right to anonymity.

The judge set a 13-year headline sentence and suspended the final year for 12 months, subject to strict conditions including post-release Probation Service supervision. The judge described the offending as a serious breach of trust involving violence and threats, and said there was little mitigation.
