William Harty loses appeal against endangerment conviction

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

William Harty lost his appeal against his endangerment and criminal damage convictions at the Court of Appeal, in a judgment delivered on 12 May 2022.

The convictions followed a jury trial at Kilkenny Circuit Criminal Court. Harty had pleaded not guilty after driving his car into the family home at Kilmanagh, Co Kilkenny, while his wife and young children were inside.

The appeal challenged the admission of his wife's 999 call and the handling of the crime scene. The three-judge court dismissed the appeal on all grounds, ruling that the trial judge was right to admit the call and had addressed the crime-scene issue.
