William Greene was sentenced at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to three years in prison, with the final 20 months suspended on condition that he enter a bond. Judge Martin Nolan imposed the sentence.

Greene pleaded guilty to two counts of persistently using the telecommunications system to cause annoyance, interference or needless anxiety to another between 8 March and 9 November 2023. The proceedings were reported on 27 March 2025.

Detective Garda Jeremy Gibbons said 11,043 calls had been made, lasting a total of 129 hours. He said the number of genuine calls missed because the lines were occupied could not be quantified.

The garda agreed with defence counsel that Greene had an addiction to alcohol and was heavily intoxicated when making the calls. Counsel said Greene had pleaded guilty early and engaged constructively with the criminal justice system; he had also made efforts to address his addiction.
