This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Wayne Cooney was convicted of murdering Jordan Davis, who was shot while pushing his four-month-old son in a buggy in Darndale, north Dublin. The conviction was reported on 5 July 2022.

Cooney had pleaded not guilty to murdering Davis in a laneway on 22 May 2019. He had also denied possessing a semi-automatic pistol and ammunition.

The jury deliberated for three hours and 13 minutes before reaching its verdict. Cooney was also convicted of possessing the pistol and ammunition. The report said he would be sentenced for murder on Friday.

The prosecution said Cooney approached Davis on a bicycle and fired eight shots, hitting him three times. It said a garda had identified Cooney in some CCTV footage. Defence counsel Giollaíosa Ó Lidheadha said it would have been impossible to identify his client from the footage as claimed.

Prosecuting counsel Bernard Condon said Cooney was connected to a drug dealer who had threatened to kill Davis over a debt. Ó Lidheadha told the jury it should not find Cooney guilty because of an association with someone who had threatened Davis, and argued that the prosecution case did not amount to proof beyond reasonable doubt.

Mr Justice Tony Hunt told the jury it had to decide whether Cooney was the man on the bicycle and be satisfied there was no other reasonable explanation before convicting him of murder.
