Justice Paul McDermott sentenced Warren Nolan to mandatory life imprisonment for murder and six years for setting a car on fire on 14 January 2019. Both sentences were backdated to September 2017.
Alan O’Neill was shot dead in the front garden of his home on Kiltalown Road, Tallaght, on 27 May 2015. Nolan was found guilty of murder by a majority jury verdict in December and of setting fire to the car used in the killing by a unanimous verdict.
The judge said an appropriate sentence for setting the car on fire would be seven to 10 years, but imposed six years after taking account of Nolan’s young age and other mitigating factors. Detective Garda Conor Harrison told the court that Nolan had 24 previous convictions.
