Vincent Banks acquitted of withholding information in murder case
This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.
Vincent Banks was acquitted of withholding information relating to the murder of prison officer David Black at the Special Criminal Court on 2 April 2014.
Banks had denied the charge. The court accepted that he had bought a Toyota Camry in a false name and that it was forensically linked to the shots that killed Black, but found no evidence beyond suspicion that he knew it would be used in the murder. The report said the prosecution case was that the car had been purchased by Banks and used by the occupants when Black was shot on the M1 motorway near Lurgan on 1 November 2012.
Banks was remanded on bail until April 9 on a separate charge of IRA membership. The proceedings were reported on 3 April 2014.
