Victoria Dalton pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to one count of theft at the Circle K petrol station in Dundrum. The theft took place on 24 March 2020.
The proceedings were reported on 3 July 2023. Detective Garda Barry Brennan told the court that a man put a knife to Dalton’s throat and demanded money from staff. Dalton also told staff to hand over the money or the man would kill her. A staff member handed over €120.
Brennan said he believed Dalton and the man had colluded. He accepted there was no suggestion Dalton had a weapon, but could not say whether she knew the co-accused would have a knife. Defence counsel Tara McLoughlin said her instructions were that there was no plan, Dalton did not know her friend had a knife and she felt guilty about her role.
Judge Orla Crowe ordered a probation report and adjourned the case to 17 November for finalisation. She said the court was concerned about Dalton’s risk of reoffending because she had participated in a very serious matter.
