Val Martin loses High Court challenge over weather mast

By Rory Hanlon

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Val Martin lost his High Court challenge to planning permission for a weather mast at a wind farm in Co Cavan; the decision was reported on 5 May 2022.

Martin had challenged An Bord Pleanála’s October 2020 decision granting permission to complete the mast at a different location at Raragh Wind Farm, Corrinshigo.

Justice Cian Ferriter rejected Martin’s arguments and refused permission to apply for judicial review, finding that substantial grounds had not been made out.

The judge held that the mast formed part of the original wind farm project, which had planning permission and an environmental impact assessment, and that its relocation did not create a new project or give rise to likely significant environmental effects.
