This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

The unnamed teenager’s life sentence for murdering Urantsetseg Tserendorj remained in place after the Court of Appeal upheld his conviction on 2 November 2023.

He was 14 when he stabbed Tserendorj on a walkway in Dublin’s IFSC on 20 January 2021. He had denied murder but pleaded guilty to manslaughter; a jury found him guilty of murder on 11 November 2022, and he was sentenced to life, with a review after 13 years.

The Court of Appeal rejected all grounds advanced for the teenager, including challenges to evidence about another attempted robbery, a prosecution remark in the trial opening, hearsay evidence and the trial judge’s conduct. The court ruled that the conviction was safe and that the sentence would continue.
