Unnamed man seeks to halt indecent assault prosecution

By Ruairí Dolan

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

An unnamed man charged with two counts of indecent assault is seeking to halt his prosecution at the High Court; his application came before Mr Justice Charles Meenan on 6 December 2021.

The charges relate to alleged assaults on a schoolboy at a Dublin soccer club and during a trip outside Dublin in the mid-1970s. The man denies the charges and cannot be named for legal reasons.

He argues that delays in bringing the prosecution, disclosure issues and the passage of time put him at risk of an unfair trial. The judge directed that his application for leave be made on notice to, or in the presence of, lawyers for the Director of Public Prosecutions. The case was expected to return to court in January.
