An unnamed 61-year-old man pleaded guilty to sexually exploiting a child in his care at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, reported on 7 December 2023.

He admitted nine sample counts from 69 charges, including five counts of sexually exploiting a child, three of producing child pornography and one of possessing it.

The charges covered conduct between March 2021 and November 2022; the child was aged between three and a half and five during the abuse.

The court heard that the child’s father lived across the corridor from the accused in Dublin, and that the man cared for her while her father briefly went out.

The report said he would be sentenced the following month; Judge Orla Crowe ordered probation and risk assessment reports, and the case was to be finalised on 31 January.
