A man who cannot be identified denies raping a woman during a lock-in at a Limerick city bar.
The proceedings were reported on 9 March 2016. The report described the trial as continuing.
On 8 March 2016, the woman told the trial that she was raped in a back office of the bar in the early hours of 10 November 2012. She said she had stayed for a lock-in and alleged that her attacker grabbed her by the throat and refused to let her go.
Under cross-examination on 9 March 2016, she claimed he showed her photographs of his wife and children and insisted he “wasn’t that kind of man”. The report also recorded her saying she did not want to see the pictures.
The woman claimed he apologised a week after the alleged rape and said he had been very drunk that night after attending an international rugby match in Dublin.
Under cross-examination, she said she had to take anti-depressants and obtained extra security for her home after he allegedly threatened her. She described the ten-day wait for results of tests taken at a Sexual Assault Treatment Unit as “harrowing”.
