By Tadhg O'Sullivan

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

The unnamed man was acquitted of rape, oral rape, sexual assault and false imprisonment at the Central Criminal Court on 29 January 2018.

The offences were alleged to have occurred in a vehicle at an unknown location in Cork city on 27 June 2014.

Mr Justice Paul Butler directed the jury to find him not guilty after ruling that the failure to test his neck for DNA created a real danger of an unfair trial.

The ruling withdrew the case from the jury as a matter of law and ended the trial.
