Viorel Doroscan and Otniel Richardo Clejan have been sentenced to life in prison for murdering Mahamud Ilyas, after a jury found them guilty earlier this year. The Central Criminal Court imposed the mandatory sentence for murder.
The trial heard that Doroscan and Clejan beat Ilyas at an apartment in Blanchardstown, striking his head with a hammer and kicking and stamping on him. They tied his hands and feet, wrapped him in a duvet and left him in a wooded area at Belgree Lane, Co Meath, where his body was found the following day.
At sentencing, Mr Justice Tony Hunt said the men had suffered a “massive loss of control and reason” during the assault. He also described the way they dealt with Ilyas after the attack as disrespectful and callous.
