Two boys deny murder as judge warns Ana Kriegel jury

By Aoife Loughran

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Two teenage boys denied murdering Ana Kriégel in a trial reported on 11 June 2019.

The judge told jurors that alleged lies could indicate guilt only if there was no innocent explanation.

He said people might lie because of shame, panic, confusion or a wish to conceal disgraceful behaviour from family.

The boys also denied the murder charge, while the first accused denied aggravated sexual assault.

The judge reminded jurors that presence at a crime scene was not by itself participation in murder.

He said the prosecution had to prove intention, participation and knowledge beyond reasonable doubt before a conviction.
