Boy A and Boy B pleaded not guilty to the murder of 14-year-old Ana Kriegel. Boy A also denied a charge of aggravated sexual assault.
The proceedings were reported on 16 May 2019. The prosecution alleged that Boy A murdered and sexually assaulted Ana, and that Boy B assisted the murder and knew what was going to happen.
Ana’s body was found in a disused house three days after she disappeared in May 2018. Both boys were 13 at the time of the alleged offences.
The trial heard that data retrieved from Boy A’s phone included the terms “15 most gruesome torture methods in history” and “abandoned places in Lucan”. An exhibit showed search engine data from January and February 2018.
Detective Garda Tomás Doyle told the court that, when questioned on 25 May 2018, Boy A said he did not have the search engine on his phone and did not know how the data could have been retrieved. Boy A also told gardaí he had been looking for horror movies online and said he was not interested in torture films.
