Trevor Rowe was sentenced to life imprisonment for Ann Butler’s murder at the Central Criminal Court, reported on 1 April 2022. Butler was killed at her home on Maudlin Street in Kilkenny on 20 March 2020.
Rowe had been convicted by a jury the previous month after pleading not guilty. The jury rejected his lawyers’ argument that drink and drugs had prevented him from forming an intent to kill Butler.
At sentencing, the judge imposed the mandatory life sentence. Rowe’s defence counsel told the court he expressed deep sorrow to Butler’s family; the judge said the murder had an enormously painful and profound impact.
