By Orla Quinn

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Sergeant Tony Byrne told the Charleton Tribunal on 13 July 2017 that he had never seen a notification containing a false sexual-abuse allegation against Maurice McCabe.

Byrne said the notification was sent by Tusla to Bailieboro Garda station in May 2014, and that he first became aware of it when the tribunal began.

He also said he had never experienced malice towards McCabe at Bailieboro, while acknowledging complaints about policing standards and related Garda inquiries.

The report records that the tribunal was examining claims that sexual-abuse allegations had been used in a campaign against McCabe.
