Three men lose appeals against convictions over Kevin Lunney kidnapping and torture

By Fionn Kelly

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Three men jailed over the kidnapping and torture of Quinn Industrial Holdings director Kevin Lunney failed to have their convictions overturned at the Court of Appeal, according to a report published on January 13, 2026.

The men had argued that DNA evidence from a van destroyed by fire while in Garda custody should not have been admitted at trial. They also challenged the trial court’s refusal to adjourn proceedings over the law on phone records. In March 2025, the Court of Appeal reserved its decision after hearing the appeal.

A separate report published in July 2026 says the three men challenged their sentences as excessive.
