Thomas Redmond was sentenced to a total of five years in prison for burglary and trespass at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court. The proceedings were reported on 23 October 2025.

Redmond, 41, formerly of Ard Donagh, Ennistymon, Co Clare, pleaded guilty to burglary at a house on Bird Avenue, Clonskeagh, Dublin 14. The burglary took place on 9 January 2024. He also admitted trespass at a house in Stillorgan on 30 November 2022.

He was on bail for the trespass offence when he committed the burglary. In the Stillorgan incident, he had pushed aggressively at the front door but stopped when he saw a young man inside.

The court heard that a mother was upstairs with her sleeping baby during the Clonskeagh burglary. Her partner said she saw Redmond running up the stairs; he ran past her into the bedroom, and she followed him to protect the baby. He escaped through a window.

In a victim impact report for the couple, the woman's partner said they checked their locks twice each night and that their sense of security had never fully returned.

Judge Martin Nolan accepted that Redmond intended to burgle unoccupied houses and tried to escape when he realised people were home. The judge said it was a serious matter and that people were entitled to believe they were safe in their own houses.

The court heard that Redmond had 72 previous convictions, including burglary, trespass, criminal damage and road traffic offences. His defending counsel said Redmond wanted to apologise to the victims.
