Thomas McMahon’s IRA trial adjourned over phone recording request

By Tadhg O'Sullivan

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Thomas McMahon’s trial for membership of the IRA was adjourned at the Special Criminal Court by Mr Justice Paul Butler. Noel Noonan faces the same charge.

The defence sought confirmation about whether telephone calls made by the men from garda stations had been recorded, saying the issue required investigation before the trial could proceed.

The prosecution could not confirm whether recordings existed, and the judge adjourned the trial until the following day. The proceedings were reported on 26 March 2014.
