Thomas McMahon's IRA membership trial to proceed

By Gráinne Nolan

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Thomas McMahon's trial for IRA membership was ruled to proceed in the Special Criminal Court before Mr Justice Butler on 27 March 2014.

McMahon pleaded no plea in the report; he was due to stand trial on 26 March, and proceedings were adjourned to the following Tuesday.

The ruling followed evidence that the Cahir and Clonmel garda stations were not involved in systematic call recording. Defence lawyers sought further information and an independent expert inspection, while the prosecution argued the trial should continue.

The proceedings were reported on 27 March 2014.
