Thomas McMahon and Noel Noonan’s IRA trial allowed to proceed
This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.
The Special Criminal Court ruled on 27 March 2014 that Thomas McMahon and Noel Noonan’s trial for IRA membership should proceed. The two Limerick men had been due to stand trial on the charge on 26 March 2014.
The ruling followed evidence that the Tipperary garda stations where the men were detained were not involved in systematic telephone recording. Defence lawyers were given time to consider requesting an independent expert examination of the stations, and the case was adjourned to the following Tuesday.
This report covers an earlier stage of the case. Later developments are not reported here.
