Thomas McFeely avoids jail as debt case is struck out

By Niamh Kearney

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Thomas McFeely avoided a possible three-month jail term when Dublin District Court, before Judge Mary Collins, struck out a civil enforcement action on 8 November 2013 over a €24,288 debt. The proceedings were reported on 8 November 2013.

The action followed an instalment order made in January 2011 after MCR Personnel Ltd pursued payment for services. McFeely had paid €10,000 of an original debt of about €34,000, but two later cheques bounced. His solicitor was not identified in the report, while Peter Dempsey, for MCR, told the court the matter had been resolved and the action was being dropped. The report said McFeely had disputed ownership of several assets and denied receiving a £2m sterling payment or collecting £120,000 in rent from the Athena Court development.
