Thomas Gallagher was jailed for two years for rape and sexual assault at the Central Criminal Court, reported on 16 October 2023.

His brother, Aidan Gallagher, was jailed for five years for six counts of oral rape, with two years of post-release supervision. The brothers had denied the allegations and were convicted by a jury sitting in Carrick-on-Shannon, County Leitrim, in May 2023.

The judge reduced Thomas Gallagher’s sentence because of his rapidly progressing Motor Neurone disease, which a medical report said was terminal. The judge said the prison could provide the necessary treatment at that time.
