Judge Martin Nolan ordered Gaff to pay a €1,000 fine within six months and did not disqualify him from driving.
Judge Nolan acknowledged that Gaff had no previous convictions. The court heard there were no aggravating features in relation to his driving: he was not speeding or under the influence of alcohol or drugs, his vehicle was in good condition and the driving conditions were good.
