Suzanne Shannon received a two-and-a-half-year prison sentence, with the final six months suspended on strict conditions, at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court on 25 July 2022. Judge Orla Crowe ordered that she receive credit for time spent in custody in the case.

Shannon pleaded guilty to one count of possession of heroin. The drug was valued at an estimated €69,608 and was found at her home in Avondale House on North Cumberland Street on 23 June 2017.

The report said Shannon had transported heroin between her home and another Dublin address at the behest of her then partner. Judge Crowe accepted that Shannon had been doing well before coming under the influence of someone more involved with drugs, and noted that her then partner had taken responsibility for the drugs.

The judge said Shannon had a chronic drugs problem and a history of offending. She had 46 previous convictions, mostly for theft.

Judge Crowe treated Shannon’s possession of tablets two days after she was remanded in custody as an aggravating factor. In mitigation, the judge noted her early guilty plea, full co-operation with gardaí and clean urine samples since entering custody.
