Conor McGregor was found civilly liable for assaulting Nikita Hand and ordered to pay damages. After the Court of Appeal dismissed his appeal, the Supreme Court refused permission for a further appeal on December 4, leaving the Court of Appeal’s decision in place.

The Supreme Court said the application raised no matter of general public importance warranting an appeal and that it was not satisfied an appeal should be permitted in the interests of justice. The dispute concerned the trial judge’s decision to allow evidence of McGregor’s “no comment” answers to gardaí, with the jury directed not to treat those answers as relevant to whether he raped Hand.

Separately, the Court of Appeal referred material connected to McGregor’s withdrawn fresh-evidence application to the Director of Public Prosecutions for consideration of possible perjury, including possible induced perjury. The referral was for consideration.
