This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

The Court of Criminal Appeal quashed SUNNY IDAH's convictions for soliciting the unlawful importation of controlled drugs on 23 January 2014. The court was constituted by MacMenamin J., Herbert J. and de Valera J.

A jury convicted him on 3 April 2012 of two counts: soliciting another to commit unlawful importation of a controlled drug, and the same offence involving a controlled drug valued above €13,000. He received 12 years, with the final year suspended, on the first count, and 15 years, with the final two years suspended, on the second, on 18 May 2012.

The appeal concerned recordings and transcripts of contacts with undercover Gardaí. The court held that evidence gathered on 19 September 2010 lacked valid approval and should have been inadmissible; it ordered a retrial. The proceedings were reported on 23 January 2014.
